The rules of Paliev International Online Music Competition

 

SCHEDULE

The competition is completely online and is held annually.

 

SPRING EDITION:

Application deadline is April 15th. Announcement of the results on May 15th. Sending diplomas on June 1-10.

 

AUTUMN EDITION:

Application deadline is November 15th. Announcement of the results on December 15th. Sending diplomas on January 10-20.

 

Article 1.

Dobri Paliev-grandson and Paliev Art Academy organizes The Paliev International Online Music Competition (hereinafter referred to as the competition). The competition takes place entirely over the Internet.

Article 2.

The competition is open to contestants of all nationalities and countries. Participants compete in categories based on their age.

Article 3.

The contestants will be judged based solely on the submitted recordings.

Article 4.

We will have different application fees. We will provide a lower, discounted price to contestants who apply before the busy time.

 

SPRING EDITION

15 January – 14 February, 40€    – The Earliest of Birds

15 February – 07 March, 50€    – Early Bird

08 March – 15 April, 60€    – Standard

 

AUTUMN EDITION

15 September -14 October, 40€ – The Earliest of Birds

15 October – 07 November, 50€ – Early Bird

Article 5.1

Classical instruments:

RepertoireFree choice (one or more pieces) from the baroque, classical, romantic, or contemporary periods. The performance should be solo, with piano accompaniment or performance with orchestra. Total duration of the video recording is limited:

  • I category – born in 2015 and younger up to 5 minutes
  • II category – born in 2014 – 2011 up to 6 minutes
  • III category – born in 2010 – 2008 up to 7 minutes
  • IV category – born in 2007 – 2003 up to 10 minutes
  • V category – born in 2003 – 2000 up to 12 minutes
  • VI category – born in 1999 – 1996 up to 15 minutes
  • VII category – born in 1995 and older up to 17 minutes

 

Article 5.2

Modern, Pop and Jazz:
RepertoireFree choice (one or more pieces) from any period. The performance should be solo, with accompaniment or performance with orchestra. Total duration of the video recording is limited:

  • I category – born in 2015 and younger up to 5 minutes
  • II category – born in 2014 – 2011 up to 6 minutes
  • III category – born in 2010 – 2008 up to 7 minutes
  • IV category – born in 2007 – 2003 up to 10 minutes
  • V category – born in 2003 – 2000 up to 12 minutes
  • VI category – born in 1999 – 1996 up to 15 minutes
  • VII category – born in 1995 and older up to 17 minutes

 

Article 5.3

Ethnic & Folklore (Solo):

  • I category – born in 2015 and younger up to 5 minutes
  • II category – born in 2014 – 2011 up to 6 minutes
  • III category – born in 2010 – 2008 up to 7 minutes
  • IV category – born in 2007 – 2003 up to 10 minutes
  • V category – born in 2003 – 2000 up to 12 minutes
  • VI category – born in 1999 – 1996 up to 15 minutes
  • VII category – born in 1995 and older up to 17 minutes

 

Article 5.4

ENSEMBLES:

Classical, Modern, Jazz and Ethnic Instruments (Ensembles):
RepertoireFree choice (one or more pieces) from any period. Total duration of the video recording is limited:

DUET

I category – born in 2013 and younger up to 5 minutes

II category – born in 2012 – 2009 up to 7 minutes

III category– born in 2008 – 2003 up to 10 minutes

IV Category – born in 2003 – 1994 up to 13 minutes

V category – born in 1995 and older up to 15 minutes

 

ENSEMBLE (from 3 to 15 participants)

Ensembles can only perform with one accompanist, conductor etc. The age category is determined by the average age of all participants, excluding the age of the accompanist, conductor etc.

I – category – born in 2003 and younger up to 10 minutes

II – category – born in 2003 and older up to 15 minutes

 

STUDENT – TEACHER

In the Student – Teacher category, the age group is determined by the age of the student.

I – category – born in 2009 and younger up to 6 minutes

II – category – born in 2008 – 2003 to 8 minutes

III – category – born in 2003 – 2001 up to 10 minutes

IV – category – born in 2000 and older up to 12 minutes

 

Article 6.

Video recordings (audio not acceptable) must be performed by the applicants and may not be edited, nor should any effects be added. Participants’ video performance is recorded entirely without cutting the video (without interrupting the camera). The performer/s shouldn’t leave the camera frame at any point during the performance. To ensure that poor recording quality does not interfere with jury’s ability to review the material, avoid distortion, and ensure that the accompaniment is not louder than the applicant (where applicable). You will not be penalized for the quality of your video, although it is important that it is good enough to see and hear you clearly. Most modern phones can make good enough recordings.

When you submit the Application Form, please include the piece/s you are applying with in the format: name of the piece, composer’s name, duration. Please also include web link/s below.

Videos should be available for watching online – download links won’t be accepted.

If you submit YouTube links, be sure your videos have the proper settings:
VIDEO MANAGER → videos → Basic Info → from the dropdown menu, please choose “Public” or “Unlisted” instead of “Private”.

Article 7.

If the duration of the submitted Video exceeds the time limits, as specified in the rules, with more than 60 seconds, the applicant might be disqualified without notice and his/her application shall be treated as null and void.

The duration of the performed piece excludes applause and going onto, moving/changing between instruments or leaving the stage.

Article 8.

Registration is to be done exclusively through electronic means. During entering the website www.paliev.org/competition the competitor needs to provide the following:

  • Filled the Online Application form in English
  • YouTube link
  • Portrait Photo

Article 9.

By participating in the competition, competitors automatically disown the right for any material (financial) remuneration regarding eventual publication and distribution of music video recordings on CD, DVD publications and Internet.

Article 10.

A minimum of three qualified and professional in the specific category judges will be evaluating the audition materials. The work of the Jury is regulated by special Rules. Jury members are to be elected out of renowned musicians, as well as performing artists, conductors, concertmasters, and chamber musicians from all over the world. All Jury decisions are final and irrevocable.

Article 11.

Competitors are qualified according to the average grade point of evaluations by the Jury:

  • FIRST PRIZE– is to be awarded to the competitor who wins at least 90/100 points
  • SECOND PRIZE– is to be awarded to the competitor who wins at least 80/100 points
  • THIRD PRIZE – is to be awarded to the competitor who wins at least 70/100 points
  • DIPLOMA – is to be awarded to the competitor who wins at least 60/100 points

Number of awards (prizes) are limited but can be shared if more than one contestant reaches the same mark.

Article 12.

The competitor with the best placement in the competition discipline will be the Absolute Winner and will be awarded with the Diploma Paliev International Online Music Competition Grand Prize in the amount of 300 Euro.

The Absolute Winner will get his/her picture and biography published on the website.

In the case of several competitors-soloists in the category have the same number of points, advantage will be given to the younger competitor. In the case of several competitors in the different categories having the same number of points, final decision on the placement will be brought by the Jury.

Article 13.

The prizes will be awarded based solely on the submitted recordings. The competitors have no right to present any objections against the composition of the Jury.

Article 14.

Fund of prizes from Association:

  • All contestants will be awarded with diplomas
  • Teachers and accompanists on request receive a certificate for a portfolio
  • The Absolute Winner will get his/her picture and biography published on the website under the title “The Winner of The Paliev Online International Music Competition Grand Prize”. The Absolute Winner also receives a special diploma.
  • State and public institutions, enterprises, and individuals, in agreement with the organizers may award special prizes.

Article 15.

After all competition nominations are finished, Diplomas will be sent out on the dates specified.

Article 16.

By applying to the competition, participants automatically accept all conditions of the online music competition rules.

  • FIRST PRIZE – is to be awarded to the competitor who wins at least 90/100 points
  • SECOND PRIZE – is to be awarded to the competitor who wins at least 80/100 points
  • THIRD PRIZE – is to be awarded to the competitor who wins at least 70/100 points
  • DIPLOMA – is to be awarded to the competitor who wins at least 60/100 points
